Room fee ≠ minimum spend
A $200/hour room fee and a $3,000 minimum spend are different commitments — minimum spend usually bundles food and beverage you must buy from the venue.
There is no verified nationwide 2026 average. The last broad U.S. study we could verify reported an average of $21,781 in 2019. Today’s public prices vary widely by city, guest count, service level, and what each package includes — so below are real, source-linked price signals for four cities instead of an invented national number.
The honest answer
The number you will see quoted around the internet — $21,781 — comes from a 2019 survey by Mi Padrino of its own users. It is a real, citable data point, but it is a 2019 benchmark, not today’s average. A June 2026 KPBS report describes families spending around $22,000 in cash and $25,000–$30,000 counting family help — useful current context, but a news example, not a new national survey.
What actually determines your total: guest count (food and venue scale with it), city (the ceilings below differ sharply), and package scope (a “per person” price can mean food only — or venue, bar, cake, DJ and limo).

A $200/hour room fee and a $3,000 minimum spend are different commitments — minimum spend usually bundles food and beverage you must buy from the venue.
One Houston ballroom lists a ~$45/person rental-oriented package without food and a ~$109/person package described as including venue, catering, bar, cake, photography, DJ and limo. Same unit, completely different purchase.
A hotel guide we cite adds sales tax, a taxable 17% gratuity and an 8% facilities charge on top of its per-person price. Always ask what a number excludes.

Phoenix, Chicago and Miami are not in this first edition: we could not yet assemble the same six source-backed categories for them, and we would rather ship four honest cities than seven padded ones.
The fine print
None of these is universal — but each appears in at least one public price sheet we cite, so ask about all of them:
Before you sign
Quinara guidance — not market data
Multiply verified per-person line items (catering, per-person venue packages) by 100, then add the costs that do not scale with guests — venue hire, DJ, photography, dress and cake are largely fixed. That is why two 100-guest parties in the same city can land thousands of dollars apart.
For most families it is the venue-plus-food block, because it scales with guest count and often carries tax, gratuity and facility fees on top. The public package examples on this page show how wide that block can range.
The public listings we checked show higher venue ceilings in Los Angeles (up to $600/hour and $12,000/day on the marketplace we cite) than in the Texas cities, but package scope differs so much that only same-scope quotes can be compared fairly.
Take a real per-person price from a vendor you would actually book — for example a listed catering package — and add your city’s venue signal divided by your guest count. Avoid one-size-per-guest rules; the unit and inclusions matter more than the number.
Sales tax, service charge or gratuity, facility/cleaning fees, security, staffing, rentals, setup and teardown, overtime, and bar or beverage packages. One hotel guide we cite adds a taxable 17% gratuity plus an 8% facilities charge on top of its per-person price.
Yes — sponsoring specific items (venue, cake, dress, photography) is a core quince tradition. Track confirmed pledges only, with the item, value and due date in writing; assumed pledges are the most common budget surprise.
